Job Description

Join a dedicated educational community serving K-5 students with special needs for the 2025-2026 school year. This contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in an elementary school setting, focusing on life skills and supporting students with severe or multiple cognitive disabilities.

Location: Hampden, ME
Duration: August 25, 2025 June 10, 2026
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM 3:30 PM
Caseload: 12 students
Classroom Support: Collaboration with 7 Educational Technicians (paraprofessionals)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the life skills and cognitive development of students with severe or multiple disabilities.
  • Collaborate effectively with educational technicians to support classroom management and enhance personalized instruction.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting teaching strategies to meet evolving educational and developmental needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student growth and independence.
  • Communicate regularly with families and interdisciplinary teams to support student success.

Qualifications:

  • Maine teaching certification #282 or an equivalent reciprocal certification from out-of-state.
  • Experience working with students with life skills needs and severe or multiple cognitive disabilities.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to effectively work with support staff and families.
  • Commitment to creating supportive learning environments tailored to diverse needs.
