SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, CA shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Maintenance Welder .

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Welder to perform welding and fabrication duties for maintenance, repair, and fabrication in support of equipment, heavy equipment, and facilities projects. Prioritize project completion to reflect the production area needs.

Must be in San Diego California, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.

Responsibilities:

• Perform maintenance and repair welding/fitting/fabrication operations
• Perform general maintenance work
• Ability to perform layout for welding and fitting operations
• Ability to interpret blueprints
• Safe and efficiently use various welders and cutting tools
• Operate equipment and machines including gas and arc welding equipment, saws, jointers and other hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Ability to weld with both wire feed and stick in all positions
• Estimate materials required for maintenance projects
• Self-motivated and the ability to work with minimal supervision

• Design skills and knowledge
• The ability to work well with your hands and work well with others

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED, Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

• Must be able to climb up and down ladders and gangways, work aloft while wearing fall prevention equipment
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry the same for short distances and up and down stairs and steep inclines
• The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.

Other requirements:

All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify. Must be able to qualify for DBIDS security clearance. Ability to read technical English is a must. U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required). Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
