LEGAL NURSE CONSULTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION : The Legal Nurse Consultant ("LNC") will consult on all medical aspects of the firm's Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, Mass Tort, and Civil Rights cases in a large firm setting. The role plays an integral part in assisting attorneys in case selection, pre-litigation, and litigation processes of matters involving injury, many cases of which include catastrophic injury. The LNC acts as liaison between the medical experts and attorneys, providing explanations and understandings of the medical literature and its application to cases. The LNC provides ongoing litigation support to these busy teams. The ideal candidate has an excellent understanding of nursing and medicine, especially as it relates to catastrophic injuries and death.

This role is open to California based applicants.

Remote work is allowed but regular travel to San Diego, CA will be required as needed.

SALARY AND BENEFITS :

$85,000-$130,000

Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 5 years of clinical nursing experience with valid state registered nursing license
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing; Master's degree in nursing, public policy, or similar field preferred
  • Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate (LNCC) preferred.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, growing organization, preferably in the healthcare management or legal, or other professional services industries.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and able to learn new computer software systems as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed leader with the ability to build relationships through high levels of professionalism, confidentiality, judgement, and discretion in line with the firm's client service standards.
  • Ability to build, drive, and maintain team morale.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and advise on initial cases in potential medical malpractice cases.
  • Develop and manage the initial review process for all medically related PI cases when causation is in question or medically complex.
  • Review, analyze, and explain the content of the medical records and medical literature to attorneys, paralegals, and other legal experts.
  • Assist in locating medical experts with case review, understanding medically complex situations, and related issues.
  • Provide support in depositions regarding medicine for defense experts and all other medical witnesses.
  • Research the medical issues involved with potentially harmful products.
  • Collaborate with lead attorney(s) on any issue(s) in any case involving medicine.
  • Develop relationships with nurses, attorneys, physicians, paralegals involved in litigation inside and outside of the firm.
  • Required to travel to San Diego, CA office as needed.
